New Horizons in Autism, Inc. (NHIA) is seeking a Representative Payee Specialist in Marlboro Township, NJ to manage representative payee accounts, coordinate Medicaid/insurance billing, and maintain SSA compliance.

You will work with individuals, guardians, and care teams to support financial independence and stability. Ideal candidates have 2–5 years in medical billing or accounting, strong Excel/Word/Outlook skills, and a passion for helping people achieve greater independence.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Financial Management, or related field preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in medical billing, collections, accounting, or related office environment.
  • Experience with Medicaid billing and record keeping preferred.
  • Experience using Therap and Fee-for-Service billing is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Manage representative payee accounts in accordance with SSA policies.
  • Complete and process required paperwork for Social Security, Medicaid, disability benefits, and housing programs.
  • Report required changes in client status to SSA.
  • Process incoming mail, assist with deposits, and distribute benefit checks.
  • Develop monthly budgets with individuals and case managers to ensure essential needs are met.
  • Advocate for individuals by connecting them with community resources and supports.
  • Process Medicaid, Medicare, and insurance billing with accurate coordination of benefits.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
  • Build positive relationships with individuals, guardians, support coordinators, and community agencies.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining confidentiality and compliance.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Billing, the Representative Payee Specialist is responsible for managing representative payee services, coordinating Medicaid and insurance billing activities, maintaining compliance with Social Security Administration (SSA) requirements, and providing outstanding support to the individuals we serve and their care teams.

This position is ideal for someone with experience in accounting, medical billing, financial management, social services, or customer service who enjoys helping others achieve greater financial stability and independence.

What You'll Do

Manage representative payee accounts in accordance with Social Security Administration policies and procedures.

Complete and process required paperwork for Social Security, Medicaid, disability benefits, and housing programs.

Report required changes in client status to the Social Security Administration.

Process incoming mail, assist with deposits, and distribute benefit checks.

Develop monthly budgets with individuals and case managers to ensure essential needs are met.

Advocate for individuals by connecting them with additional community resources and supports.

Process Medicaid, Medicare, and insurance billing while ensuring accurate coordination of benefits.

Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.

Build positive relationships with individuals, guardians, support coordinators, and community agencies.

Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining confidentiality and compliance.

Qualifications
Education

High School Diploma required.

Associate's degree in Accounting, Financial Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience

2–5 years of experience in medical billing, collections, accounting, or a related office environment.

Experience with Medicaid billing and record keeping preferred.

Experience using Therap and Fee-for-Service billing is a plus.

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
