Job summary

Pattern Energy is seeking a motivated Business Development Intern for our Chicago office to support Illinois wind portfolio expansion and new development opportunities. The role provides hands-on exposure to commercial, strategic, and development activities for advancing utility-scale renewable energy projects.

You will work with the Business Development team and cross-functional partners to support existing projects and evaluate future opportunities, while collaborating with Development,

Qualifications

• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate key findings clearly.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and interest in renewable energy, electricity markets, transmission, infrastructure development, or energy transition.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support business development activities including research, analyses, presentations, and development initiatives.
• Conduct market, competitive, regulatory, and industry research relevant to wind development and renewable energy opportunities.
• Assist with early-stage prospecting and market screening to identify potential areas and opportunities for future renewable energy development.
• Research regional generation trends, electricity demand, transmission considerations, market dynamics, and other factors that may influence development strategy.
• Assist with commercial and financial analyses.
• Support evaluation of potential project opportunities, customers, strategic partners, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare internal presentations, project updates, briefing materials, maps/data summaries, and recommendations for the Business Development team and company leadership.
• Participate in Business Development and project meetings and contribute research, ideas, and analysis to address real-world development challenges.
• Collaborate with colleagues across Development, Transmission, Finance, Regulatory, Engineering, Legal, and other functions.
• Complete a meaningful summer project focused on a business development opportunity or strategic question and present findings and recommendations at the conclusion of the internship.
