Job summary

UL Solutions is seeking a Renewables Intern to join our Renewable Energy Advisory and Independent Engineering teams in Northbrook, IL. You will work on wind, solar, and BESS projects, learning pre-construction analyses, energy yield modeling, and technical due diligence while collaborating with engineers, developers, and financial institutions.

The internship offers a 10-12 week project with exposure to Python/R, Excel, and data analysis, plus potential housing and relocation support.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s (rising senior) or master’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil), Renewable Energy, Atmospheric Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated interest in renewable energy technologies; familiarity with power systems or electrical fundamentals preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; exposure to financial models is a plus.
• Strong communication skills, including writing and presenting technical information.
• Experience with programming languages such as Python or R is preferred; familiarity with data manipulation libraries is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Join Renewable Energy Advisory and IE teams to learn and contribute to wind, solar, and BESS energy projects.
• Assist with pre-construction resource assessments and energy production modeling.
• Support technical due diligence reviews and validation of technical inputs for financial models.
• Help with data analysis, research, and drafting sections of Independent Engineering reports.
