Job summary

Prisma Health Urgent Care is seeking a remote Supervising Physician to oversee APPs in a fully remote capacity, with the requirement to reside in South Carolina. You will provide clinical oversight, consultation, and support in accordance with laws and Prisma Health Urgent Care policies.

The role emphasizes supervision, case review, credentialing support, and participation in quality improvement activities to ensure safe, high‑quality care across our urgent care network.

Qualifications

• Must physically reside in the state of South Carolina
• Board Certified or Board Eligible and licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina
• Current DEA registration
• Experience with procedures including suturing and drainage of abscesses
• Experience reading diagnostic studies, including X-rays and EKGs
• BLS certification (we will provide this if needed)
• Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing set forth by Prisma Health Urgent Care / WellStreet Urgent Care
• Experience in Urgent Care, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine preferred
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and other employees

Responsibilities

• Provide timely clinical consultation and support to APPs during assigned supervision or coverage periods, including by telephone or other approved communication methods when you are not physically present at the center.
• Provide clinical guidance and review cases requiring physician involvement, including high-risk complaints, critical findings, abnormal vital signs, ECGs, and other situations requiring physician escalation.
• Provide appropriate clinical direction when concerns arise, including recommendations for additional evaluation, treatment, changes to the plan of care, follow-up, or escalation to a higher level of care.
• Review and cosign APP documentation when required by applicable law, credentialing requirements, or Prisma Health Urgent Care policy.
• Provide additional clinical support and case review for newly hired, newly credentialed, or otherwise designated APPs during orientation or enhanced supervision periods.
• Participate in applicable quality improvement and peer review activities related to APP practice, including providing clinical feedback and escalating significant quality or patient safety concerns through established processes.
• Support APP practice within the provider’s authorized scope of practice and applicable requirements related to physician supervision, collaboration, delegation, and prescriptive authority.
• Daily APP Support & Coverage: Prisma Health Urgent Care utilizes a team-based physician coverage model.
• Depending on operational needs, you may serve as the Supervising Physician for your assigned centers on certain days, providing clinical consultation and support to APPs within your center and nearby centers.
• Daily physician coverage and support responsibilities are separate from formal supervising or collaborating physician assignments.
