Job summary

Tailscale is seeking a full-time Program Manager to shape and optimize how Engineering, Product & Design operate together. You’ll own operational health processes, build dashboards, and drive data-informed improvements in a fully remote, distributed environment.

You’ll collaborate with Engineering, Product and Design leadership, translate data trends into actionable changes, and help plan and track initiatives across the EPD organization.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Program Manager or TPM coordinating with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
• Remote startup experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Deep understanding of engineering teams, workflows and common tooling.
• Experience owning operational health processes (bug tracking, incidents, reliability, escalations).
• Strong data skills; building dashboards and reports in Jira and Snowflake.
• Ability to translate data trends into a clear story and drive process changes.
• Comfort with ambiguity and undefined deliverables; proactive in improving operations.
• Execution-focused; hands-on implementation beyond high-level planning.
• Experience partnering with Engineering, Product and Design leadership.
• Strong communication and feedback skills; collaborative work style.
• Familiarity with Agile and tools like Jira, Notion and GitHub.
• Awareness of security and engineering lifecycle practices.

Responsibilities

• Own processes for bug tracking, incidents, reliability, and escalations; drive improvements.
• Spot trends in health data and translate into insights for the team.
• Build dashboards and reports that provide visibility into operational health.
• Turn data into a story and design/process changes to act on it.
• Identify and fill process gaps with just the right amount of governance.
• Support planning cycles and project tracking across teams.
• Lead project status reviews and leadership roadmaps.
• Connect systems and teams to reduce overlap and conflicts.
• Jump in on initiatives to improve efficiency, even if not in a defined program.
• Run project retrospectives to learn and adjust future work.
• Seek opportunities to simplify business operating procedures.
