Job summary

Canonical is seeking a Telco Field Engineer to design and implement OpenStack, Kubernetes, and SDN solutions for telco customers. This remote-based role focuses on 5G-oriented infrastructure, automation, and model-driven operations. You will drive architecture, POCs, and deployment across multi-tenant clouds.

You will work closely with customers and partners, travel up to 50%, and help shape Canonical’s telco roadmap while advancing open source technologies in a fast-changing market.

Qualifications

• Python development experience at an intermediate level (mandatory).
• Terraform automation experience.
• Strong understanding of telco NFVi (VIM/NFVO/VNFM/MEC).
• Knowledge of CPU Pinning, NUMA, SR-IOV, DPDK, etc.
• Understanding architectures of MNOs/CSPs.
• Knowledge of Mobile Packet Core, Radio, VAS, OSS/BSS.
• Open source best practices in telco virtualization.
• Linux, OpenStack and Kubernetes networking knowledge.
• Passion to automate and improve open source tooling.
• Ability to lead complex projects end-to-end.
• Collaborative attitude focused on customer success.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Lead customers through design and delivery of OpenStack, Kubernetes, and SDN solutions.
• Provide pre-sales technical consulting to Service Provider teams.
• Design and implement telco-grade multi-tenant private clouds and micro clouds.
• Deploy cloud solutions (OpenStack, Kubernetes, MAAS, Ceph).
• Investigate, report and fix defects found during deployments.
• Demonstrate IaC techniques for telco use cases.
• Learn model-driven operations with Juju charms for multiple services.
• Help customers adopt Bare Metal, Public, Private, and Hybrid Clouds.
• Capture engagement learnings to drive product improvements.
• Shape the roadmap to accelerate telco growth.
