Job summary

Artemis Arc seeks a full-time Technical Writer to support the Federal Highway Administration's Office of Research, Development, and Technology at TFHRC. Write and edit content from one-page fact sheets to long reports, translating engineering concepts for technical and general audiences while meeting federal standards.

This role entails remote work with occasional travel, requires 5–10 years of technical writing experience, and the ability to obtain a public trust clearance.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, and publishing.
• Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or related field.
• Experience applying the GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and ensuring Section 508 accessibility compliance.
• Experience in the transportation sector preferred.

Responsibilities

• Research, write, and edit content for technical reports, magazine features, newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, user manuals, and other research communications products.
• Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and subject matter experts to translate complex concepts for technical and general audiences.
• Provide substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading across all production stages.
• Verify technical accuracy through interviews, research, and fact-checking; ensure tables, schematics, and figures integrate smoothly.
• Ensure content conforms to GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and TFHRC RD&T guides.
• Maintain Section 508 accessibility compliance and manage permissions and attributions for materials.
• Manage lifecycle of documents from outline to final publication with version control.
• Coordinate review and approval with FHWA contacts and external stakeholders.
