Aptive is seeking a full-time Technical Writer to support the FHWA RD&T at TFHRC. You will research, write, and edit a range of materials from one-page sheets to large reports, translating engineering concepts for technical and general audiences.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, and publishing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or related field.
  • Familiarity with GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style; 508 accessibility standards.
  • Experience supporting federal government or research communications projects.

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, and edit technical reports, fact sheets, newsletters, and manuals.
  • Collaborate with engineers and researchers to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Provide editing and proofreading across all production stages, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Verify technical accuracy via interviews, research, and fact-checking.
  • Ensure content conforms to style guides and accessibility requirements; manage version control.
  • Coordinate review with FHWA contacts and external stakeholders when needed.
