Job summary

Aptive seeks a Technical Editor II to support federal research communications with a proactive, client-ready approach. This contingent hire may require security checks and on-site considerations, with remote work anticipated and possible client travel.

You will edit and prepare complex FHWA documents, ensure accessibility and proper styling, and manage publication lifecycles from outline to online publishing.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in technical writing or documentation, preferably in highway or transportation contexts.
• Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, or related field.
• Expert-level knowledge of GPO Style Manual, with working knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style.
• Experience ensuring Section 508 accessibility for technical publications.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Edit FHWA documents for accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
• Transform data and jargon into publication-ready documents.
• Apply GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style consistently.
• Integrate schematics and data tables with narrative text.
• Distill complex concepts for engineers and researchers.
• Manage full document lifecycle from outline to publication.
• Copyedit, proofread, rewrite, and format for print and web.
• Ensure 508 accessibility compliance and CRG adherence.
