Apply the GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style, ensure Section 508 accessibility, and manage documents from outline through final publication, including online publishing.

Remote work is anticipated; occasional travel for client engagements may be required.

Qualifications

• 5 years of technical writing or documentation experience; highway or transportation knowledge preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, or related technical field.
• Expert-level knowledge of the GPO Style Manual; working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style.
• Experience ensuring Section 508 accessibility compliance for technical publications.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to meet competing deadlines.
• Ability to obtain and maintain public trust clearance.
• Authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Edit FHWA documents for accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
• Transform data and jargon into publication-ready documents with references and copyright checks.
• Apply GPO and Chicago style to ensure consistency across deliverables.
• Integrate schematics and data tables with narrative text for transparency.
• Collaborate with engineers and researchers to distill complex concepts.
• Manage full document lifecycle from outline to publication, including online publishing.
• Copyedit, proofread, edit, and format for print and electronic deliverables.
• Ensure deliverables meet Section 508 accessibility requirements and TFHRC CRG.
