Job summary

Scripps is seeking a Systems Engineer to design, implement, and maintain enterprise server/infrastructure platforms across on-prem and multiple public clouds. You will own day-to-day health, security, and reliability of Windows and Linux environments, virtualization, and DR, while supporting an advanced IT team.

The ideal candidate has strong skills in Windows/Linux, VMware, cloud administration, and automation, with a proactive, collaborative mindset.

Qualifications

• Two-year degree in computer science or equivalent
• 3+ years of experience in a production-oriented, highly available hosting operations environment
• Must be able to lift to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

• Maintain enterprise-wide Windows and Linux servers, AD, VMware, infra tools, and DR.
• Maintain VMware vSphere hosting environments; deploy, decommission VMs as needed.
• Administer cloud servers and infrastructure, including provisioning, hybrid connectivity, and capacity management.
• Maintain Linux server infrastructure: health, patching, DNS, and configuration management.
• Automate recurring infrastructure work using PowerShell, Bash, and IaC tooling.
• Provide level 1 and 2 technical support; serve as escalation point for server issues.
• Identify resources nearing capacity and recommend solutions.
• Maintain and test backup and DR systems; participate in DR exercises.
• Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours/weekend production work.
• Perform scheduled after-hours/weekend deployments and maintenance.
• Create/update process docs, runbooks, and standards.
• Coordinate with network/security/app teams and MSPs to deliver projects
