Job summary

MercyOne is seeking a Full-time remote Medical Coder responsible for coding and abstracting professional billing records. The role requires at least two years of current experience with ICD-9, CPT coding, and payer rules, plus a coding certification.

Will review records and assist billers with coding questions and denials. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, mandatory reporter training within 3 months, knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and strong computer skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years post high school education preferred.
• Two years current experience with ICD-9, CPT coding, and health insurance provider rules required.
• Coding Certification required.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and medical terminology required.
• Mandatory Reporter abuse training within 3 months of hire.
• Knowledge of physician EM coding desired.
• Working knowledge of computer information systems required.

Responsibilities

• Coding and abstracting patients’ records for professional billing.
• Reviewing patient records for coding and sequencing of diagnoses and procedures for reimbursement.
• Assist with coding questions from billers.
• Serve as a resource for difficult coding questions and insurance denials for correction and re-filing.
• Suggest process improvements related to registration and charge posting.
• Adhere to federal, state, and insurance regulations.
• Follow hospital policies on corporate compliance.
• Stay updated on insurance carrier rules and changes via carrier education opportunities.
