Job summary

CU Medicine is seeking a Coding Education Specialist with a Surgery emphasis to join the Coding Services department. You will lead ongoing education for coding staff, coordinate with leadership on projects, and research coding questions while planning education for new coders.

The role also supports trending and coding analysis, provides coder feedback, and develops and presents group or individual trainings as needed.

Qualifications

CPC or AHIMA certification is required.
3–5 years of surgical coding experience with procedural and diagnosis coding expertise.
Specialty certifications are preferred.
CPMA certification highly preferred.
EMR and practice management software experience.
Proficient in reporting and analytics.

Responsibilities

Serve as a coding expert for assigned surgical specialties.
Provide training and education to new and existing coders per department standards.
Use audits to monitor coding quality and identify education opportunities.
Create and present education materials for targeted specialty areas.
Research coder questions and provide accurate guidance.
Identify correct coding for new CPT codes and share findings with the team.
Educate staff on ICD-10 and CPT changes in line with regulatory guidelines.
Perform occasional edit analysis to identify education needs.
