Job summary

University of Colorado Medicine (CU Medicine) is seeking a Coding Education Specialist with a diagnostics emphasis to join its Coding Services department. This role can be performed 100% remotely, and out-of-state candidates will be considered.

The specialist will train coders, lead education initiatives, conduct coding research, and provide guidance on CPT/ICD-10 changes. Strong analytics, audits, and presentation skills are needed.

Qualifications

• CPC or AHIMA coding certification required.
• 3-5 years of Diagnostics coding experience with procedural and diagnosis coding expertise.
• Specialty certifications preferred.
• Experience with EMR and Practice Management software.
• Proficient in reporting and analytics.

Responsibilities

• Serve as coding expert for assigned specialties.
• Provide training and education to coders following CS Department standards.
• Monitor coding quality via audits and identify education needs.
• Create presentations on education for the team and targeted areas.
• Research coder questions and provide accurate guidance.
• Research correct coding for new CPT codes and present findings.
• Educate staff on ICD-10 and CPT changes per regulations.
• Perform edit analyses to identify educational opportunities.
