Job summary

HOPCo is seeking a Surgical Authorization Specialist for a remote role. You will monitor upcoming surgical case authorizations, verify demographics and eligibility, and complete cost estimations for pre-service collection.

The position requires at least 2 years in healthcare, strong organizational and data-entry skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and staff while upholding HIPAA rules.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in the healthcare field; referrals/authorizations experience preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and strong customer service orientation.
• Proficient with computers and data entry.
• Working knowledge of eligibility, verification of benefits, and prior authorizations from various payers.
• Familiarity with HIPAA privacy regulations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor authorizations of upcoming surgical cases on physicians' calendars to ensure timely approvals.
• Verify patient demographics and insurance eligibility; coordinate benefits.
• Complete surgical cost estimation forms for pre-service collection.
• Verify benefits on all surgical procedures and document progress in charts.
• Communicate with physicians, patients, and staff to build good working relationships.
• Assist surgery schedulers with STAT authorizations.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality of health records.
• Participate in staff training on new processes to improve workflows.
• Attend department meetings as required.
