Job summary

SAFEbuilt is seeking a Structural Plan Review Engineer to join our team remotely on a part-time basis. The role focuses on reviewing structural documents for code compliance, coordinating with city, state, and private development projects, and guiding inspection teams through complex plan reviews.

The ideal candidate holds a B.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering with PE licensure and notable experience in wood-framed and commercial building plan reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is required by state boards.
• ICC Building Plans Examiner certification is a plus.
• 3+ years as a licensed professional engineer leading projects in construction.
• Experience performing wood-framed structural reviews.
• Experience performing Commercial Building Plan Review preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review structural construction documents for compliance with codes and standards and authorize release for permits.
• Review structural calculations for code compliance.
• Provide timely oral or written communication detailing deficiencies in plans and specs.
• Lead design coordination meetings with developers and city/state project teams.
• Assist inspectors with complex code issues and respond to questions on plan reviews.
• Maintain positive relationships with directors, managers, and stakeholders to gain cooperation.
