Job summary

Block, the company behind Cash App and other brands, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Financial Platform Issuing team. This role focuses on the card issuing platform powering Cash App Card and Square Card, spanning issuance, fulfillment, and activation with real-time processing.

You will work hands-on, influencing network requirements, building tooling, and collaborating with networks and internal teams to ensure secure, scalable operations.

Qualifications

• Deep, current expertise with at least one major card network, ideally Visa, including connectivity, ISO 8583, authorization, and certification.
• Experience landing concrete outcomes with card networks: rulings, exceptions, and certification.
• Hands-on software engineering for reliable financial or payments systems at scale.
• Track record leading technically complex work across teams and influencing direction.

Responsibilities

• Be a deep technical expert on global card networks and network specifications.
• Lead complex engineering problems at the network boundary across teams.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to shape solutions where card-network requirements intersect with issuing platform.
• Write production code, build certification tooling, analyze network messages, and debug at protocol level.
• Drive network certification and release cycles end-to-end.
• Establish frameworks, tooling, and practices to make network expertise durable for teams.
• Share technical guidance through reviews, documentation, and mentoring.
