Cribl seeks a Staff Data Engineer to lead Cribl's Data Engineering team, shaping architecture and driving end-to-end data systems including Snowflake, dbt, and self-hosted orchestration.

You will mentor engineers, own cost-aware data modeling, and collaborate with data analysts, SREs, and IT when building cloud-native services on AWS. This role emphasizes leadership and hands-on execution.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in Snowflake: data modeling, performance tuning, cost management.
• Proven technical leadership: tech lead or staff-level engineering experience.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration across data, engineering, and business teams.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and growing junior to mid-level engineers.
• Strong Python and SQL fundamentals with ELT patterns and data modeling experience.
• Hands-on experience operating self-hosted / self-managed orchestration (Prefect preferred; Airflow/Dagster acceptable).
• Hands-on AWS and infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for Cribl's Data Engineering team.
• Own architecture and design decisions for core data systems.
• Partner with stakeholders across Data Analysts, SREs, IT Engineers, and business teams.
• Own and operate self-hosted orchestration platform and Prefect deployment.
• Maintain operational hygiene, upgrades, and cost/footprint tradeoffs of a hybrid, self-hosted model.
• Shape platform roadmap, engineering standards, and build-vs-buy tradeoffs.
• Mentor and grow data engineers through code review and pairing.
• Prepare model-ready datasets and integrate AI/LLM workflows into production.
