Job summary

Spoonflower, part of the family of brands, is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to own the design and evolution of core backend services powering our commerce platform. You will lead GraphQL federation and Shopify integrations, partnering closely with frontend, product, and platform teams to scale our commerce experience.

This role focuses on distributed systems, API design, and production reliability, with hands-on ownership of major platform areas and mentoring of other engineers.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend or platform engineering experience.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems and APIs at scale.
• Deep proficiency in GraphQL design and Fed/supergraph architectures.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and evolution of core backend services and APIs powering commerce workflows.
• Lead architecture and implementation of GraphQL services on Apollo Federation supergraph.
• Build and improve Shopify integrations as part of cross-team effort.
• Reconcile Shopify inventory/SKU with our made-to-order fulfillment flow.
• Define and improve service boundaries, data models, and integration points.
• Partner with frontend, product, and platform teams to simplify integration.
• Diagnose and resolve distributed-system and runtime failures; own operability and incident response.
• Act as a technical reference through design reviews and mentoring.
• Influence roadmap decisions with clear tradeoffs.
