Job summary

CHRISTUS Health is seeking a Specialty Coder to maintain ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding for inpatient and outpatient accounts. The role emphasizes accurate abstraction into CHRISTUS Health EMR systems and collaboration with HIM and Clinical Documentation Improvement teams.

Remote work is supported; the coder will review clinical documentation and ensure coding accuracy to support proper billing and reduce denials. About 1–3 years of experience is preferred, with AHIMA-certified education preferred.

Qualifications

• High school Diploma or equivalent years of experience required.
• Completion of Accredited Baccalaureate Health Informatics or Health Information Management or an AHIMA approved Coding Certificate Program, preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines to generate MS/APR DRG.
• Abstracts required information from source documentation into CHRISTUS Health EMR systems.
• Validates admit orders and discharge dispositions.
• Works from assigned coding queue, completing and re-assigning accounts correctly.
• Manages accounts on ABS Hold, finalizing accounts when corrections have been made, timely.
• Meets or exceeds an accuracy rate of 95% and productivity standards.
• Abides by AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding.
• Queries providers for missing or unclear documentation with HIM/CDIS support.
• Works independently in a remote setting and participates in audits.
• All other duties as assigned by the Manager.
