Job summary

CHRISTUS Health is seeking a Specialty Coder to focus on inpatient or outpatient high-dollar accounts, maintaining ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT coding accuracy. You will review clinical documentation and abstract data into CHRISTUS Health EMR systems, while collaborating with HIM and CDI teams to ensure precise coding for quality coding and reduced denials.

You will report to the Regional Coding Manager with leadership support from the Director of Coding Operations and System HIM Director.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of coding experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT guidelines.
• Completion of accredited health informatics/health information management education or AHIMA-approved coding certificate.

Responsibilities

• Assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures per official ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT guidelines.
• Abstract data from source documentation into CHRISTUS Health EMR systems.
• Validate admit orders and discharge dispositions.
• Manage coding queue and re-assign accounts as needed.
• Maintain coding accuracy of 95% or better and meet productivity standards.
• Query providers for missing/unclear documentation in collaboration with HIM and CDI staff.
• Participate in internal and external audits and support error reduction initiatives.
