Job summary

American Institutes for Research (AIR) is seeking a part-time Technical Assistance Consultant in Tennessee to lead and deliver evidence-based professional development, coaching, and technical assistance for students with disabilities. The role emphasizes IDEA expertise, literacy support, and collaboration with local and state education leaders.

The position requires residency in Tennessee, ability to travel across the state, and experience delivering virtual and onsite PD to educators.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. in special education or related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in education or a Bachelor’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of IDEA and related special education requirements.
• Extensive experience designing and delivering virtual and onsite professional development and coaching to local educators in Tennessee.
• Experience using evidence-based instructional practices to design and deliver professional development and adult learning.
• Extensive experience providing direct special education-related training, coaching, or technical assistance to local educators.
• Familiarity with strategies to support students from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience collaborating with education service providers, curriculum developers, researchers, or professional associations.

Responsibilities

• Develop training materials, implementation measures, and protocols for monitoring and providing feedback on implementation.
• Deliver training, professional development, and coaching to support teachers in implementing new programs and/or improving instruction using structured protocols.
• Provide expertise on literacy teaching and learning to support research activities including recruitment of study participants, development of implementation and related outcomes measures, data collection, and implementation analyses.
• Contribute to the development of reports that describe and interpret findings for clients, partners, and other relevant audiences.
• Represent the organization in interactions with state, local, and site-based staff; potential clients; and partner organizations.
• Contribute to capacity building efforts within special education organizations and provider networks.
• Work on collaborative project teams, including supervision of research/TA assistants and associates as a task or functional lead.
• Contribute to team efforts to develop new business opportunities including strategic planning, identification and pursuit of opportunities, and proposal development.
• Manage or lead projects or tasks, with assumption of greater responsibility over time.
