Job summary

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks a Skills Ontology and Learning Recognition Director to lead the content and academic-methodology for a multi-institution learning-recognition initiative. This role drives the skills-to-credit framework with faculty governance and transparent recommendations.

The Director collaborates with Academic Affairs, Sponsored Programs, and technical staff to define ontology, translation methods, and review models ensuring defensibility and alignment with

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred in higher education or related field.
• 7–10 years of progressively responsible higher education experience.
• Experience translating non-traditional learning into academic credit.
• Familiarity with skills taxonomies and standards.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives with governance and external stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication; executive reporting experience.

Responsibilities

• Define UMGC's skills ontology and translation framework.
• Provide executive oversight of project plans and milestones.
• Lead faculty-engagement strategy for methodology review.
• Represent UMGC in partner planning and interoperability discussions.
• Ensure policy alignment and quality assurance.
