Job summary

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks a Skills Ontology and Learning Recognition Director to lead the skills-to-credit framework and governance for a multi-institution initiative funded by a Gates Foundation grant. You will guide methodology, crosswalks, and reviewer models with Academic Affairs, Sponsored Programs, and technical staff.

You will oversee project direction, faculty governance, and external partnerships, ensuring academic defensibility and policy alignment across

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
• 7–10 years in higher education, prior learning assessment, or related fields.
• Experience designing and governing methodologies translating non-traditional learning into academic credits.
• Deep familiarity with skills taxonomies and external standards.
• Experience leading cross-functional governance with internal and external stakeholders.
• Leadership in strategic planning, risk, and program oversight.
• Strong written and verbal communication for governance materials.

Responsibilities

• Define UMGC's skills ontology, translation framework, and credit methodology.
• Lead adoption and governance reviews with cross-institutional partners.
• Oversee project plans, milestones, and resource allocation.
• Represent UMGC in external partnerships and ecosystem discussions.
• Ensure alignment with grant requirements, accreditation expectations, and policy.
