Lumen is hiring an External Event Marketing Manager in Madison, WI to lead end-to-end execution for Tier 1/2 third‑party events, partnering with Sales, Product Marketing, Communications, Brand, IT, and agencies to deliver experiences on time and on budget.

The role requires 8+ years in events (6+ with a Master’s), strong project management skills, and a track record of onsite leadership under pressure. Domestic and international travel up to 25–40% is expected.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience, or 6+ years with a Master’s degree.
• 5+ years executing large-scale third-party events, conferences, or experiential programs.
• Experience supporting major industry events (AWS re:Invent, Microsoft Ignite, Cisco Live, Gartner, MWC, etc.).
• Ability to manage multiple complex event workstreams with strong attention to detail.
• Experience developing project plans, staffing schedules, run‑of‑show docs, and production timelines.
• Experience managing event agencies, vendors, venues, and production partners.
• Proven success leading onsite event operations in high-pressure environments.
• Experience planning ancillary events (receptions, roundtables, hospitality, networking).
• Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to influence across Sales, Product, Marketing, Communications, and leadership.
• Highly organized, self-directed, and adaptable to changing priorities.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally 25-40%.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end execution for Tier 1 and Tier 2 third‑party events on time and on budget.
• Support the External Event Strategy lead in executing portfolio plans.
• Own event planning documents, timelines, run‑of‑show, staffing schedules, and workstreams.
• Serve as primary contact and manager for event agencies, vendors, venues, and production partners.
• Lead onsite event execution, logistics, staffing, issue resolution, and operations.
• Develop and manage staffing plans ensuring proper resource deployment.
• Produce ancillary events (customer dinners, roundtables, receptions, hospitality).
• Coordinate cross-functional teams to drive seamless execution and customer experiences.
• Create scalable event processes, templates, and planning tools.
• Manage budgets, timelines, and vendor deliverables; align with brand standards.
• Track results and contribute to post‑event reporting and insights.
• Identify opportunities to enhance attendee engagement and activations.
