Job summary

HighLevel is hiring for a backend engineering role in a remote-first environment. You will own platform components for workflows and conversations, focusing on scalable queues, data stores, and cloud infra.

You’ll work across Node.js and Go, with exposure to Redis, Pub/Sub, Kubernetes, and NoSQL/SQL databases. The ideal candidate has 4+ years in backend roles, strong systems knowledge, and a track record of shipping robust, scalable services.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend engineering experience with hands-on work in Node.js and/or Go.
• Strong systems understanding across application, database, and infrastructure.
• Deep experience with queueing and async processing (Pub/Sub, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Cloud Tasks).
• Database depth beyond CRUD; experience with SQL/NoSQL at scale.
• Hands-on with Redis, caching patterns, and failure modes.
• Production cloud infrastructure experience, Kubernetes, autoscaling.
• Clear design docs and rigorous test cases; capable of RCAs.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core platform components for Workflows and Conversations.
• Own components end to end: architecture, design docs, code, tests, rollout, dashboards.
• Deep-dive on scalable data stores, indexing, sharding, migrations.
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams on GKE, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, and capacity planning.
• Spot gaps early: idempotency, backpressure, and cache stampedes; implement fixes.
• Debug cross-layer incidents; ensure production health across services.
• Write thorough design docs and RCAs to guide 80+ engineers.
