Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a Senior Programmer in IT Enterprise Architecture. This remote role focuses on designing, developing, and deploying Python-based web applications and services, with emphasis on AI-enabled automation and secure data handling.

You will work with stakeholders across IT, security, and infrastructure to translate requirements into reliable solutions, while contributing to CI/CD pipelines and modern web development practices in a healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in programming, CS, healthcare, business management or information systems.
• 5+ years of professional software development with strong Python experience.
• Experience with Python frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI.
• Experience building web apps with JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML/CSS; Angular preferred.
• Azure DevOps Pipelines or similar DevOps tools and deployment processes.
• Git workflow, code reviews, and SDLC practices.
• REST API integration with authentication, error handling and data validation.
• Technical documentation writing (min 2 years).
• Kubernetes, Docker and containerization experience.
• Knowledge of generative AI/LLM development and healthcare data environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain and enhance Python-based web apps, services, scripts, and automation.
• Develop backend services with Python and Node.js; support frontend with Angular/JS/HTML/CSS.
• Support builds, deployments, configuration management, and CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps.
• Diagnose issues via logs, SQL queries, HTTP responses and system tools.
• Collaborate with IT teams to resolve complex technical issues.
• Translate business requirements with stakeholders into technical solutions.
• Follow security, privacy, change management, and coding standards.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, QA and production support.
• Integrate generative AI/LLM capabilities, including RAG, vector databases, and AI workflow automation where applicable.
