Job summary

Baker Tilly Advisory Group, LP is seeking a Payroll Consultant to support payroll consulting engagements across diverse clients and industries. This mostly remote role requires proximity to Baker Tilly offices within 50 miles and a strong foundation in multistate payroll.

You will analyze payroll processes, ensure compliance, handle tax forms, and collaborate with teams to deliver accurate, timely work while expanding your CPP credentials and Excel mastery.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of payroll experience in consulting, payroll provider, or in-house payroll function.
• Bachelor's degree preferred, experience can substitute.
• CPP certification preferred or in progress.
• Strong Excel and MS Office skills.
• Knowledge of multi-state regulations and payroll tax forms.

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies.
• Assess and improve client payroll processes, controls, and procedures.
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews (federal, state, local).
• Assist with payroll tax forms and filings (e.g., 941, 941-X, W-2C).
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration (earnings, deductions, tax treatments).
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Support reviews related to employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations.
• Research and apply payroll regulations (reciprocity and multistate considerations).
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate, high-quality work.
• Communicate payroll concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to project deliverables and ensure on-time completion.
