Job summary

GSD Search is partnering with a leading P&C insurer to recruit a Senior Actuarial Manager for the reserving function. You will lead a team, perform complex loss reserving analyses, and challenge assumptions while coordinating with external consultants and auditors.

You will influence reserve decisions, present findings to the CFO, and mentor junior actuaries in a lean, dynamic environment. Remote US engagement, long-term consulting.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on Property & Casualty actuarial reserving experience, including direct, recent Workers' Compensation loss reserving experience.
• Experience with additional commercial P&C lines, preferably Commercial Auto, General Liability, or Private Passenger Auto.
• Prior experience managing, mentoring, or directly supervising actuarial professionals.
• Demonstrated experience interacting with outside actuarial consulting firms and external financial auditors.
• Strong technical knowledge of loss development methodologies, IBNR, ultimate loss projections, reserve adequacy, and actuarial assumptions.
• Experience personally developing and performing reserving calculations rather than exclusively reviewing or overseeing the work of others.
• Ability to independently challenge actuarial conclusions and communicate recommendations to executive leadership.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage technical discussions with internal stakeholders, outside actuaries, and auditors.
• Ability to operate independently in a lean actuarial environment with limited day‑to‑day technical oversight.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the actuarial reserving function, mentoring analysts across multiple programs.
• Perform complex loss reserving analyses, including development triangles, factor selections, ultimate loss estimates, and IBNR calculations.
• Oversee quarterly reserve reviews and evaluate reserve adequacy across WC, Commercial Auto, General Liability, and other P&C lines.
• Independently apply reserving methodologies (Chain Ladder, Bornhuetter-Ferguson, etc.).
• Serve as a primary technical resource with external actuarial consultancies and auditors.
• Support annual financial audits and explain methodologies and assumptions to auditors.
• Review and reconcile internal and external reserve estimates to support management decisions.
• Present reserve findings and risks to CFO and senior leadership.
• Provide technical guidance to junior staff while handling complex reserving work.
• Support actuarial documentation and regulatory filings.
