Job summary

Optum is seeking a Senior Medical Coder to perform concurrent review of FFS coding rules and ensure accurate CPT and E/M coding for maximum reimbursement and minimized denials. The role supports charge review, claim edits, and denials within a remote nationwide setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Certification from AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, etc.) required.
• 3+ years of Pro-Fee coding experience across multiple specialties.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, modifiers, HCPCS guidelines.
• Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and anatomy & physiology.

Responsibilities

• Apply understanding of medical coding subject areas to assign appropriate codes.
• Interpret clinical documentation using anatomy and physiology knowledge to select codes.
• Generate queries when documentation is unclear and follow up with providers.
• Resolve edits and denials related to code assignment; support revenue cycle integrity.
• Educate and mentor others to improve coding quality.
