Praia Health is transforming consumer health through a scalable, secure software platform. We seek a senior backend engineer to work closely with engineering leadership to deliver resilient services and robust APIs for internal and external health-system partners.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years building distributed systems, strong Java expertise, and experience with HL7 FHIR. Remote US-based with a competitive benefits package and opportunities to influence platform strategy.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience building and operating production software in distributed systems.
• Expert Java backend development with Spring Boot or similar.
• Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR/HL7).
• Cloud-native architectures on AWS/Azure/GCP with containers and IaC.
• Security focus: OAuth2/OIDC, mTLS, and secure SDLC practices.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and scale core Java backend services powering Praia's platform.
• Develop enterprise integration services for EMRs using HL7 FHIR APIs.
• Optionally work with Databricks or Spark on data pipelines when needed.
• Design secure REST APIs with robust authentication, auditing, and OpenAPI specs.
• Own CI/CD, automated testing, IaC, logging, and incident response.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and partner teams to translate requirements into robust solutions.
