Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to lead testing, commissioning, and energization for utility-scale HV substations, BESS, and PV facilities. The role involves travel 20–30% and active participation in field operations.

This senior position serves as the technical authority, developing energization strategies and reviewing deliverables, while mentoring the commissioning team and ensuring safety, standards, and client expectations are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• PE license or ability to obtain.
• Minimum 10 years in testing, commissioning, energization of HV substations, BESS, PV facilities.
• Minimum 5 years leading commissioning/energization on complex projects.
• Minimum 2 years of engineering leadership or supervisory experience.
• Experience with power system protection, relay testing, harmonic analysis, power quality, interconnection requirements.
• Experience developing commissioning plans, energization procedures, switching procedures, and technical work instructions.

Responsibilities

• Attend Owner, Utility, and stakeholder meetings as requested by the Commissioning Manager.
• Develop Testing & Commissioning Plans aligned with project specifications and interconnection requirements.
• Develop, review, and execute Initial Energization Procedures for HV substations, BESS, and PV systems.
• Serve as the engineering authority for complex commissioning issues.
• Review protection philosophies, relay settings, and commissioning strategies for readiness.
• Lead substation energization activities and field coordination.
• Perform high voltage switching operations for energization.
• Review and approve commissioning reports and turnover packages.
• Provide post-energization technical support and root cause analyses.
• Mentor Commissioning Engineers and lead discipline-wide improvements.
