Job summary

Optum is seeking an experienced software engineer to design and deploy AI-powered solutions and microservices in a cloud environment. The role emphasizes RESTful APIs, scalable architectures, and secure data exchange across healthcare systems.

The candidate will work with Java 17/21, Spring Boot, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices. Experience with AI tooling and Terraform is valued. Remote work from anywhere in the U.S. is supported.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience designing and deploying microservices and RESTful APIs using Java 17/21, Spring Boot and REST Web Services.
• 5+ years of experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL) using Spring Data JPA or Hibernate.
• 5+ years of experience with PostgreSql, MS SQL Server, or Oracle database.
• 4+ years of experience working with Microservices and Event-driven architecture like Kafka.
• 3+ years of experience deploying scalable applications in cloud environments (AWS or Azure) using Docker and Kubernetes.
• 3+ years of experience setting up CI/CD automation pipelines (GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps) and version control using Git/GitHub.
• 2+ years of experience building, integrating, or leveraging enterprise AI tools and solution components.
• 2+ years of engineering experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform).
• 2+ years of experience with Cloud environments and Azure.
• 1+ years of writing Java using AI tools like Copilot, Codex or Claude

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, code, review, integrate, and deploy AI-powered solutions with Java, React, REST and microservices.
• Design, develop, and maintain robust RESTful APIs for healthcare data exchange.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies in payment systems and cloud computing.
• Design and implement microservices-based architecture using domain-driven design principles.
• Implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting for performance and reliability.
• Independently code, unit test, and mentor teammates including code reviews.
• Develop highly resilient and available components for the payment system.
