Job summary

Optum seeks an Associate Software Engineer to modernize key platform architectures through scalable microservices, API-driven workflows, and cloud-native solutions on AWS. You will build robust ETL data pipelines and AI-enabled features within an Agile team, contributing to resilient, high-performance systems.

The role allows telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S. and requires strong foundations in Python/Java, API design, ETL, and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or IT or engineering related field.
• 1+ years of overall software engineering experience across SDLC.
• 1+ years of experience developing, deploying, and maintaining cloud-based microservices and API-driven architectures using Python or Java.
• 1 year of experience with front end technologies like Node.js, Typescripts or React
• 1 year of experience designing and managing ETL pipelines utilizing Actian Data Connect or enterprise integration tools
• 1 year of experience working with AZURE or AWS cloud platforms (e.g., Lambda, S3, EC2, ECS, or RDS)
• 1 year of experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks
• 1 year of experience working in an Agile/Scrum development framework
• 6+ months of experience integrating or building application features leveraging AI technologies
• Ability to participate in on-call rotations and provide production support

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain microservices and high-performance API-driven applications using Python, Java, Node.js, Typescripts or React
• Design, build, and optimize enterprise ETL data pipelines using Actian Data Connect or comparable integration tools
• Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered features, integrations, and automation solutions with an emphasis on responsible technology use
• Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools and modern automation patterns to streamline workflows and drive platform improvement
• Evaluate emerging technical trends and AI-driven solutions to inform platform modernization
• Architect and deploy scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-native applications on AWS/Azure
• Establish and optimize automated CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks
• Collaborate in a dynamic Agile/Scrum team environment across all phases of the SDLC
