Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Remote Senior Electrical Design Engineer for a leading energy sector client. The role is fully remote with projects centered in South Africa, including Upington, Northern Cape, requiring strong independence and remote collaboration.

You will design electrical systems for renewable and traditional power facilities, lead design teams, ensure compliance with SANS/IEC/IEEE, and mentor junior engineers while delivering safe, efficient solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Pr. Eng. registration with ECSA or eligible for registration.
• 7+ years hands-on experience in electrical design engineering, preferably in energy/power sector.
• Extensive experience with power system design, protection, and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design of power generation, transmission, and distribution projects.
• Develop detailed drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams using CAD tools.
• Perform load calculations, power system studies, and protection coordination analyses.
• Ensure designs comply with national/international codes (SANS, IEC, IEEE).
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Conduct site visits to verify design parameters; prepare reports and tender documents.
• Research new technologies to improve design efficiency and performance.
