Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Systems Designer for a fully remote role, open to candidates across South Africa. You will design electrical systems for diverse projects, perform energy efficiency analyses, and ensure compliance with international standards.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, at least 6 years of experience, and proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit MEP. Strong communication and independent project management skills are essential.

You will be responsible for the conceptualization, design, and development of innovative electrical systems for a diverse range of projects, including renewable energy, industrial facilities, and commercial developments. Your role will involve detailed design work, specification writing, energy efficiency analysis, and ensuring compliance with national and international standards. The ideal candidate possesses a strong theoretical background in electrical engineering, coupled with practical experience in system design and proficiency in relevant design software. Key Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, earthing, and surge protection.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Specify electrical components, equipment, and materials, ensuring compatibility and performance.
• Conduct energy efficiency studies and recommend sustainable design solutions.
• Perform calculations for load, fault current, voltage drop, and other electrical parameters.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS, IEC, and other relevant industry standards and regulations.
• Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Prepare Bills of Quantities (BoQ) and technical specifications for tender purposes.
• Review shop drawings and respond to technical queries from site teams or contractors.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and best practices in electrical system design.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical systems design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP for electrical design.
• Strong understanding of power system analysis, protection, and control.
• Experience with renewable energy systems design (solar PV, battery storage) is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of energy management principles and sustainable design practices.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client liaison.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a remote setting.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is a significant advantage.
