Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Developer (EDI) for a 100% remote role in the United States. The position supports the Veterans Affairs department as a Full Time role with public trust clearance requirements and a salary range of $85,389–$116,975.

Target candidate will own EDI workflows, troubleshoot X12 standards, and work with Edifecs tools, AWS, and cross-functional teams to ensure compliant, high-quality data exchange.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of payer/provider workflows.
• Interpret loops/segments/element-level errors.
• Experience with Edifecs Transaction Management and XEngine.
• AWS cloud environment experience.
• Excellent communication with stakeholders.
• Knowledge of HIPAA/EDIFECS in EDI workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own functional EDI workflows, partner requirements, and data validation rules.
• Ensure accurate transaction processing and support business operations.
• Interpret and troubleshoot transaction sets: 270/271, 276/277, 278, 820, 834, 835, 837, 999/277CA.
• Analyze SNIP compliance, companion guides, and partner-specific validation rules.
• Document mapping/logical requirements for new partners and integration changes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders for issue resolution and operational impact assessments.
• Support audit/compliance reviews and maintain data quality guardrails.
• Collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps, Cloud teams, and business teams.
• Work with AS2, SFTP, HTTPS flows with integration specialists.
• Validate data sent to/received from non-X.12 partners.
• Identify issues from middleware layers or APIs.
• Query SQL for transaction details.
• Validate payloads, timestamps, statuses, and error flags.
• Reconcile mismatches between raw EDI and stored data.
