Job summary

SAIC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Procurement Engineer to support DoD programs remotely from the US. You will source, negotiate, and purchase mechanical assemblies, read GD&T and TDPs, and collaborate across engineering, procurement, and supply chain to ensure program success.

The role emphasizes cost analysis, supplier risk mitigation, and PO management in a fully remote environment with ~20% travel to supplier facilities. Prior DoD experience is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (or Manufacturing Eng) preferred.
• 5+ years in mechanical/procurement engineering, or both; Master’s with 3+ years considered.
• Experience supporting build-to-print and prototype DoD programs.
• Proficiency reading technical drawings, GD&T, and Technical Data Packages (TDPs).
• Hands-on with manufacturing processes and cost drivers.
• Procurement process knowledge: RFPs, SOWs, negotiations, source selection, contracts.

Responsibilities

• Support sourcing decisions, SOW development, RFP prep, and supplier proposal evaluation for DoD assemblies.
• Read and interpret drawings, GD&T, and TDPs to assess feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
• Help write SOWs and assist in RFPs and bid packages.
• Review supplier proposals and provide technical input for source selection.
• Track price trends and manufacturing info to leverage material acquisitions.
• Travel to supplier facilities to support evaluations; remote with growth in independence.
• Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and logistics to resolve challenges before milestones.
• Utilize ERP to manage procurement transactions and track open orders.
