Job summary

Alliance for Justice seeks a Senior Director, Foundation Relations to lead AFJ/AFJ Actions foundation fundraising efforts, building strong philanthropic partnerships. The role reports to the VP of Institutional Advancement and collaborates across departments to expand unrestricted and multi-year funding.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising, exceptional writing and strategic thinking, and the ability to translate complex policy work into compelling funder

Qualifications

• Demonstrated track record (10–15+ years) in foundation and institutional fundraising and nonprofit development, with advocacy or judicial nominations experience a plus.
• Excellent writing and analytical skills to translate legal/policy work into funder-friendly language.
• Ability to discuss AFJ/AFJ Actions goals, activities, and strategies in various audiences.
• Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy in work products.
• Familiarity with foundation/grant submission tech platforms, including EveryAction, Salesforce, and related tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage the foundation portfolio with focus on unrestricted and multi-year funding and renewals.
• Develop systems to identify prospects and approaches to secure new funding for AFJ/AFJ Actions.
• Project-manage and guide program leaders and staff involved in foundation relations.
• Write and edit strategy memos, program updates, and donor communications.
• Lead meetings with foundation leaders and donor advisors; prepare briefings.
