Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Database Administrator for a remote role supporting Veterans Affairs (VA). The position requires 8+ years of database experience with Oracle and SQL Server, strong performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security management, plus a Public Trust (MBI) clearance.

Responsibilities include install/configure DBMS, monitor performance, implement security policies, manage user access, and collaborate with IT staff to ensure data integrity and availability.

Qualifications

• Proven expertise managing Oracle databases and SQL Server
• Experience in database design and architecture
• Expertise in performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security management
• Proficiency in deploying, managing, and configuring SQL Server and Oracle databases
• Strong experience with database monitoring and maintenance tools
• Knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning for Oracle and SQL Server
• Proficiency in PL/SQL programming and Oracle optimization
• Experience with query optimization and indexing strategies for SQL Server and Oracle
• Strong documentation skills for database configurations and procedures

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and upgrade DBMS
• Create and manage database objects (tables, indexes, views, stored procedures)
• Monitor and maintain database objects and performance
• Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies
• Enforce database security policies and user access
