Job summary

Prompt Health is seeking a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to own the health, performance, and cost of databases powering its EMR and products. You’ll reduce latency, optimize queries, and build resilient, scalable data systems across AWS.

You will lead runbooks, incident response, and cross-team collaboration while driving cost-efficient architectures and robust data reliability in a HIPAA-compliant environment.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in database reliability engineering or equivalent.
• Deep MySQL expertise including replication and indexing; Aurora MySQL preferred.
• Hands-on experience with large multi-reader Aurora/RDS clusters at scale.
• Strong command of observability tooling (Datadog, PMM, Prometheus/Grafana).
• Scripting for automation (Python/Bash) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
• AWS RDS/Aurora cost optimization knowledge.
• On-call/incident response experience and runbook authoring.
• Excellent cross-team communication.

Responsibilities

• Own the reliability, performance, and availability of production databases (Aurora MySQL on AWS).
• Manage end-to-end database alerting and observability pipelines.
• Educate engineering teams on database hygiene and efficient queries.
• Implement automated safeguards for long-running queries and visibility into running statements.
• Author and maintain database runbooks for rapid incident response.
• Analyze and optimize problematic queries to reduce latency and load.
• Review EMR and application queries before release to gate inefficient ones.
• Right-size Aurora reader topology and read-routing to match workload.
• Own database cost efficiency, including reserved capacity and storage tiering.
• Manage replication health, backups, failover, and DR planning.
• Establish safe schema-change practices across teams.
• Collaborate with Platform Architect on future workloads.
• Handle PHI in a HIPAA-compliant environment.
