Job summary

Akumin is a leading provider of outpatient radiology and oncology services nationwide, delivering diagnostic imaging and patient care close to home. The Senior Data Engineer will build out the company’s enterprise data platform to support analytics and AI.

Remote work is allowed from the 48 contiguous states; some travel may be required. The role drives data quality, data provisioning, and ETL/ELT operations across the organization, enabling leaders and data scientists to access timely data for

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science or MIS, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of prior experience in Data Management / ETL / ELT / Data Warehousing.
• Experience in writing Data Quality routines for cleansing of data and capturing confidence score and master data management (MDM).
• Hands‑on experience with designing and implementing data pipelines and ELT/ETL processes (e.g. Fivetran, DBT).
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure) and related services (BigQuery, S3, Snowflake).
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, and data governance principles (DBT).
• Experience working in a highly regulated domain (Healthcare, Banking, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of SQL and Transact‑SQL (T‑SQL).
• Experience using scripting languages such as JavaScript or Python.
• Experience with agile delivery methodologies.
• Strong organizational, administrative, and analytical skills required.
• Travel may be required between 5 to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Develop complex SQL queries for data extraction, manipulation, reporting, and transformation.
• Design and implement robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Python/Google tools and off-the-shelf tooling with emphasis on monitoring and supportability.
• Contribute to coding standards and best practices for reusable data services.
• Architect, implement and deploy new data models and data processes in production.
• Build data pipelines to acquire, cleanse, transform and publish data from diverse sources.
• Assemble large, complex datasets meeting business requirements.
• Collaborate with data asset managers and architects to ensure data is fit-for-use.
• Identify, document, design, and implement internal process improvements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
