Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for a fully remote permanent role supporting teams across the Eastern and Central time zones. You will design, modernize, and optimize enterprise data platforms while hands-on leading architectural decisions.

Responsibilities include building cloud data pipelines, leading data architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, and ensuring data quality and governance. Proficiency with Azure, SQL, Python, and ETL tooling is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional data engineering experience with strong hands-on SQL and Python.
• Experience building solutions on Microsoft Azure including Azure Data Factory or similar.
• Proven leadership in small/mid-sized teams with architectural ownership.
• Strong ETL, data modeling, API integrations (REST/SOAP) and enterprise data pipelines.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, dbt, or C# is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize cloud-based data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Lead data architecture decisions and platform modernization for long-term scalability.
• Build and maintain data solutions using Azure, Python, SQL, and orchestration tools.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into data solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and promote data quality and governance.
