Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for a fully remote permanent position, supporting teams across the Eastern and Central time zones. The role focuses on designing, modernizing, and optimizing enterprise data platforms while serving as a hands-on technical leader.

The candidate will mentor engineers, own architecture decisions, and build scalable cloud-based data solutions using Azure, Python, SQL, and ETL tooling. Strong leadership in a small/mid-sized environment is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional data engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on SQL and Python experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure data platforms (Azure Data Factory).
• Leadership experience in a small to midsize environment and technical ownership.
• Expertise in ETL development, data modeling, API integrations, and data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize cloud-based data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Lead data architecture decisions and platform modernization efforts.
• Build and maintain data solutions using Azure, Python, SQL, and orchestration tools.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into data solutions.
• Mentor engineers, perform code reviews, and promote data quality and governance.
