Piper Companies is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer to lead a cloud-based data platform for global luxury travel bookings. This fully remote role emphasizes scalable pipelines, Azure-based tooling, and mentorship in a small, impactful team.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in data engineering, strong SQL and Python, and hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Spark, Snowflake or Databricks, and API integrations, in an Eastern/ Central US-friendly time zone.

Qualifications

5+ years of data engineering experience with strong expertise in SQL, Python, and modern data platforms.
Experience with Microsoft Azure Fabric preferred; candidates with Snowflake or Databricks experience will also be considered.
Hands-on experience with data orchestration tools such as Azure Data Factory and strong understanding of ETL and data modeling concepts.
Leadership experience within a small or mid-sized environment, with a demonstrated ability to mentor team members and lead technical initiatives.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines and ETL workflows supporting business-critical systems and analytics.
Utilize Microsoft Azure Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Spark, and Python to automate and enhance complex data processes.
Develop and maintain API integrations (REST and SOAP) while collaborating with third-party vendors and internal stakeholders.
Provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentorship, documentation, and guidance on data engineering best practices.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve data platform performance, ensuring reliability, scalability, and minimal downtime.
