McMillen, Inc. is seeking a Senior Dam Safety Engineer – FERC IC to join our team. The role is open across multiple U.S.

locations and can be fully remote with flexible hours. Requires PE license and extensive FERC Part 12D experience in dam safety evaluations, with strong client management skills and project leadership. The candidate will lead dam safety analyses, prepare reports, mentor staff, and collaborate with regulators and clients on complex hydroelectric projects.

Qualifications

• B.S. required in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering (MS preferred).
• Active PE license in good standing is required.
• 15+ years of engineering consulting experience including FERC Part 12D, dam safety evaluations, and dam engineering design/analysis.
• Previously served as FERC-approved Independent Consultant or CDSE or eligible to perform this role.
• PMFA/L2RA facilitator on a FERC-regulated project or eligible to be approved.
• Extensive knowledge of federal and state dam safety standards/guidelines.
• Strong verbal and written communication, including proposal development.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, GeoStudio (SLOPE/W), AllPile, Rocscience, and/or HEC-RAS.

Responsibilities

• Perform dam safety work including FERC Part 12D inspections and CDSE-type services.
• Lead or participate in PFMA and L2RA workshops.
• Oversee hydrological, geotechnical, and structural dam evaluations.
• Prepare and review dam safety reports (DSSMRs, O&M Manuals, PSPs, ODSPs, EAPs, STI).
• Manage clients, projects, and deliverables.
• Provide dam safety training and lead EAP exercises with clients.
• Conduct meetings and present findings to clients, regulators, or boards.
• Lead or support remedial designs for earthfill and concrete dams.
• Mentor junior staff on dam safety topics.
• Market professional services, write proposals, estimate costs, and schedule projects.
• Assist in selecting and qualifying subcontractors for dam safety activities.
