Job summary

Sun Gro Horticulture is seeking a Senior Controls and Automation Engineer to lead modernization of legacy control systems across North American manufacturing sites. You will design, deploy, and support new control platforms, software, hardware, and equipment to modernize plant automation and ensure operational excellence.

The role reports to regional engineering leadership, with remote-based Canada or the U.S. and 75% travel.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related; P.Eng/CET preferred.
Minimum 5 years of industrial automation experience.
Experience migrating control systems and supporting plant operations.
Hands-on commissioning and start-up of large projects (> $10M).

Responsibilities

Lead multi-site controls modernization and automation upgrades.
Collaborate with integrators to specify and implement PLC/HMI/VFD and safety systems.
Oversee installation, commissioning, validation, and network improvements.
Develop and maintain process control systems and improve processes.
Manage contractors and vendors for automation projects.
Provide expert controls support for 16 North American plants.
Interface with IT to align plant automation with infrastructure standards.
Plan project schedules and CAPEX prep.
