Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Configuration Engineer to support VA applications while migrating to the cloud. You will develop CM tools, manage builds, and train developers in CM practices within a remote, 100% U.S.-based setting. A strong background in CM, release engineering, and DevOps is essential.

You will collaborate with stakeholders, lead junior engineers, and ensure compliant, repeatable build and deployment processes across projects in a regulated federal environment.

Qualifications

• Experience leading complex software builds/releases across environments.
• Background in regulated or federal environments.
• Deep CM and release engineering expertise.
• Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM (identification, baselining, change control, status accounting).
• Experience with source control and branching/merging strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and artifact repositories.
• Experience with automation scripting.
• Experience managing COTS software and vendor patches.
• Experience with IaC and environment management (Ansible/Terraform).
• Knowledge of governance, quality standards, and training CM tools.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, and delivery.
• Perform CM and release tasks to document and standardize builds.
• Design and automate productivity tools to improve modeling and development.
• Develop build procedures for software product development and use.
• Establish company-wide CM standards.
• Train developers in CM tools and quality practices.
• Provide technical guidance on complex problems.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and mentor junior staff.
• Ensure repeatable build/deployment processes across projects.
