Job summary

Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter role with a P&C carrier in the Mid-Atlantic region. Manage a diverse book, partner with independent agents, and drive growth with profitable underwriting.

The position offers remote flexibility for qualified candidates in the Mid-Atlantic; requires 4-7+ years of Commercial P&C underwriting, solid risk assessment, and agency relationship experience. CPCU/CIC designations preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• 4-7+ years of Commercial Property & Casualty underwriting experience.
• Solid understanding of commercial insurance products, coverage structures, pricing, and risk assessment.
• Experience evaluating and underwriting a variety of Commercial Lines accounts.
• Previous experience working with independent insurance agencies or broker distribution channels.
• Demonstrated ability to manage agency relationships and contribute to business growth.
• Strong decision-making skills with the ability to assess risks and negotiate underwriting terms independently.
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical, communication, and time-management skills.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• CPCU, CIC, or similar professional insurance designations are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal Commercial P&C accounts across multiple lines of coverage.
• Analyze submissions, financial information, claims history, and overall risk characteristics to determine underwriting terms.
• Oversee an assigned book of business, balancing growth with profitability and retention goals.
• Build and strengthen relationships with independent agents and brokers to support business development.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to expand business within the assigned territory.
• Negotiate coverage terms, pricing, and account structures while adhering to underwriting standards.
• Partner with internal departments to facilitate account servicing and support business objectives.
• Evaluate portfolio results and market developments to make informed underwriting and business decisions.
