Job summary

Astera Cancer Care is seeking a Sr. Manager of Medical Coding to oversee coding pods, ensure timely charge capture, and lead the coding team within the OneOncology network. This role drives accuracy, process improvements, and cross‑functional collaboration with compliance and providers.

The position requires a professional coding certification or equivalently experienced candidate, with 6+ years coding and 5+ years of supervisory background, and willingness to travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; professional coding certification preferred.
• Equivalent experience could be substituted.
• Minimum of 6 years coding experience preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience required.
• Knowledge of Medical Oncology/Radiation/Surgery coding highly preferred.
• Must be willing and able to travel when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Oversee workload of COE coding pods to meet monthly goals.
• Review KPI’s and benchmarks for coding teams.
• Serve as Coding SME to production coders and One Oncology team.
• Collaborate with RCM Leadership on issues impacting the practice, OneOncology or staff.
• Design workflows for optimal efficiency while maintaining accuracy.
• Monitor and evaluate key processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Act as the point of escalation for coding queries.
• Assist with training for new and current staff.
• Oversee the practice management claim rules engine.
• Manage month end close process including required reports.
• Develop and maintain policy and procedures affecting coding teams.
• Directly supervise managers and team leads within the Coding COE pods.
• Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate ideas and resolve problems.
